Into the Gross:
Exploring Basic Cut-up
The Histotechnology Society of NSW proudly presents Into the Gross: Exploring Basic Cut-up – a practical, hands-on workshop designed to introduce participants to the essential principles and practices of histology specimen grossing. Held in TAFE NSW – Ultimo Campus laboratories, this workshop offers an invaluable opportunity for emerging professionals and students to build foundational knowledge in basic cut-up techniques.
Participants will explore key aspects of the histology grossing process, including understanding pathology standards, legal frameworks, and ethical responsibilities, ensuring safe and compliant laboratory practice. The session also covers specimen reception and triage, guiding attendees through correct identification and prioritisation procedures. Through focused activities on macroscopic descriptions and dictation, participants will refine their ability to describe specimens accurately and consistently.
The highlight of the day will be a hands-on grossing session, where attendees gain practical experience working with simple and non-complex specimens under expert supervision – bridging theory with real-world application.
Join us for this interactive learning experience to enhance your confidence, technical skill, and understanding of the critical first step in the histology workflow.
